| Another
neighborhood revitalization project by the Historic Salisbury
Foundation. The purpose of the rehabilitation project is to
give major impetus to revitalization of the vital Brooklyn-South
neighborhood, to save two important historic houses and their
sites, and to serve as an educational example for other rehabilitation
projects. The lot sits on the famous Confederate Prison Site
and is a vital landmark in the community. The small cottage
in the back is a one-story weather boarded frame dwelling
that was built in 1891 by C.H. Holmes after he received the
lot upon which it sits from his father. Holmes occupied it
until 1899 when he sold the house and lot to J.W. Hamill.
Hamill moved this house to the rear of the lot and built the
home that is presently at the front of the lot. This has been
an extensive project from the demolition of the duplex it
once was to the restoration of the original floors, ceilings,
fireplaces, mantels, front porch, and kitchen. There will
be new insulation, HVAC, and lighting fixtures. The Hamill
home will have 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, formal living room, dining
room, sun room, upgraded kitchen with granite countertops,
and tile floors to name just a few of the upgrades we have
installed. We hope to have the project done by the middle
of June. Follow our progress through our website. To preview
